We already introduced “what is server rack?” in previous article so now on in this page we are going to introduce more detail of a structure of a server rack and its each parts.
How Difference Between Rack and Server Rack
Features of server rack
Mainly it is used for accommodate IT equipment such as servers, storage, HUB and switches, etc to improve efficiency of management and operation.There are any types of server racks that exist for all specific needs and situations. For instance 2-post rack 4-post rack network rack. As a feature of 4-post server rack (19 inch rack) , it has 4 mounting rails to mount equipment.
Component of Server Rack
A server rack is made up of various parts, large and small. Although the names of its components are called different by each manufactures, they are similar in structure because of same use.
In a general server rack consists of these kinds of components below.

Functions of each parts
There are a frame of “welding type” in which parts such as pillars and beams is welded together and “assembly type” which is assembled by connecting columns and beams with bolts or the like. It is greatly related to strength performance for shock resistance and earthquake resistance. Each rack maker has strived to improve seismic performance and reinforced strength especially in Japan.
Mounting rails are for installing mount server. That is called mount rails, mounting rails and mount frame and so on.
＜ What is EIA standards ? ＞
EIA standards are standard concerning 19 inch rack, server rack that are standardized by EIA. In particular,
From a security viewpoint, basically front door should be attached. Take a look at a image above.These are closed door type and open door type.
＜ Closed door type ＞
Acrylic windowed doors are attached to the entire surface of the door with acrylic windows, so you can check the contents from the outside plus the security performance is higher than the punching door because you can not physically access it. However, if there is no feature to forcibly exhaust heat such as using a fan, heat will be caught inside the rack.
＜ Open door type ＞
A lot of holes on the surface of open door type so that heat does not stay inside of server rack. data center company really cares to manage airflow in data center. For that reason, many data center companies use open door type racks.
We have provided two types of door normally but we can tailor custom-made door upon request.
The type of rear door is basically the same as the front door. However, the front door and the rear door are not necessarily the same type of door. For example, front door is a single door but rear door is a double doors. That can be changed for an usability and an order of customers.
Side panels are attached right and left sides of a server rack. There are many types of side panels. For example one side panel covering with a server rack from bottom to top is fundamental version. Two side panels version is for ease of detaching. When there is a necessity of cabling among server racks, we recommend to use side panels which have cabling holes on side panels. We can tailor any side panels according to each customers needs as well as other parts.
Top panel is a part for top of a server rack. Top panel is the same as side panels, there are various types such as cabling hole type, open type and so on. Some cases you need to attach fans on top not to keep heat in server rack, when you use closed door type rack because of a capability that warm air tends to flowing from bottom to top.
Base is a basement of server rack. Normally server rack is not needed to attach base but some cases are. one of the reason why installing a base is for connection between a rack and ground. Sometime base is using for earthquake resistance.
